Asbestos and Secrecy
The debate on the asbestos legislation makes clear the divide between the GOP and the Democrats when it comes to public information. To the GOP, information is public if a Democratic senate staffer can come into a room and see a list, but not remove it, make a copy of it, or reveal its contents to anyone but the Senator that he works for, who is also bound to keep the information confidential. To the Democrats, information is public when the public can hear it.
